the impact of choices.

Standard

It’s crazy to think that the school year is pretty much over. Growing up is bittersweet. In a way I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me, but at the same time I don’t like moving on, I want to stay young forever.

Being young means so many options. But what we don’t realize is that the choices that we make even when we are young have an enormous impact on our surroundings now AND the future.

“Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.” -Deuteronomy 4:9

Whether it’s our parents or an older sibling, intentionally or unintentionally, the actions we make are always influenced by peers. In the same way, our peers are influenced by the choices we make. The choices we make when we are young are reflected upon us as we get older, which is why being young is never an excuse for any decision.

As far along the line as this is, the generation after us will look up to us for guidance. “We are the leaders of the next generation.” If our generation makes poor choices while we are young, what’s stopping the next generation? Although we are to learn and teach from our mistakes, if we don’t do the same now, what’s stopping the next generation?

God opens so many doors of opportunity, so many choices that in the short-run may seem to only slightly affect us. However, in the long-run these choices not only impact ourselves as an individual, it affects the society. We need to learn from mistakes and make the right choices, so we can be the example God wants us to be now, and in the future. 🙂
