I feel like we spend so much time focusing on the future or creating fantasies about things that will happen in the future. I know I am like that. “Oh I’ll do that tomorrow” or “Oh I’ll do this when I’m married YES” or “When I have enough time.” I spend so much time thinking about what my future, college, or family is going to be like that I forget to realize that my present is part of the future. I am forgetting that the moment I am in right now is a moment that not only affects the future, but is more valuable than the future itself because Lord knows if that future will even be there.
Not only that… we forget that God is in control of our future. We are in God’s hands, not us. We are not holding the world on our index finger – but God is.
“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Take a second to close our eyes. Where are you? Who are you with? Who are you lucky to be with right now? Open your eyes and see that beauty around you. The landscape or kitchen table. Or your bed you are lucky enough to sleep in. This moment you are in right now, what are you going to do with it?
Let this be a reality check. I feel like Ralph Waldo Emerson right now.
