Living Someone Else’s Future

I know it’s so easy to get caught up in our future. We say, “When I’m married I’m going to…” or “When I have kids, or have a family of our own I’m going to…” or “When I’m out of school I’m going to…” It’s a good thing to be excited about the future like this, but getting caught up in it is missing a piece of our own present, reality, the paths that lead to our future. Not only that, while contemplating this idea it hit me that our parents, teachers, and mentors all had similar dreams when they were younger. We are currently their dream. And the thing is, we get so caught up with formulating our own future that we don’t realize by not living in the present we are taking away from the dreams others once had.
